Stage 3 focuses on the need for new church communities to form a series of activities that cohere together into a pathway for discipling people, rather than church as an event. Teams will be asked to think about what they currently do and what they need to adapt, to form this pathway.
This stage sets the groundwork for Stage 4 and without this understanding and structure, the danger is that teams replicate current models of church, which can struggle to nurture disciples. We are aiming for each team, as they progress into Stage 4, to have developed a series of activities which form a clear pathway of discipleship that reflects their context.
After the Gathering - please post photos of your teams' action plans into the WhatsApp group.
Debrief G3 - with your hub partner:
Mentors - please send them the Stage Handbook to keep them up to date.
Oversight Ministers - please send them the Stage Handbook to keep them up to date. Do also ensure you strongly encourage each of them to sign up to the next Oversight Pathway.
Thrive in Five - please circulate the relevant content half way between G1 and the Mid Stage meeting, then again between the Mid Stage meeting and G2.
WhatsApp - have you got everyone into the group? Where is God at work? Which team/person needs attention?
Next cohort - now you are beyond the half way point of this cohort. Who might be ready to start a second cohort? Now you've got some stories, it's easier to communicate the outcomes and mechanics of Myriad to others. Plus the planters in your first cohort might be good mentors or facilitators for the next.
Celebration and Blessing - in Gathering 5, there is space for a final celebration. What shape do you want that to be? And who might you want to invite that would endorse the ministry of these fledgling new Christian communities and the people that lead them?
G3.3 Discipling Pathways
This is the key idea of this stage. It introduces the idea that we are not looking to establish church as an event, but rather a series of activities that form a pathway for discipling. Teams are asked to consider how what they are building now allows people to travel on a journey of discipleship.
G3.5 Pathway Ideas
Four approaches to disciple-making that could form a stage of a discipling pathway are presented. These should enable teams to move from the assessment of what their disciple-making pathway looks like today, to reflect how it could develop.
